You can’t use LIDAR here, dude…

Back to the good old geodetic craftmanship in the woods where the sunbeam can’t hit the ground.

Mapping the relics of early industrialisation areas in the woods and bushes of Southern Bohemia leads as to almost forgotten good terrain work. As Honza Pařez (Czech National Heritage Institute) warned me – “no, we can’t use the LIDAR data or UAV shots – You will see”, there is no posibility to filter out the vegetation to get clean dataset of the upstanding archaeological features  in the virgin forest of Pohoří. Clear to be seen from photoreport, even short distance measurements with the total station brought a problems to see and move on the site. Seems like a magic forest on the other side…
